55,000 people, 15 bands and 12 hours of music? Oh yea, Im in! That's what you get when you partake in Rockfest in Kansas City! I have been to Rockfest for the last 10 years and absolutely love this event! The last couple of years have been wet and cold so it added to my excitement to see the forecast of sunny and 70's. With the weather finally being great it was nice to see the lineup was just as good!
Formed in the mid 90's, Sevendust is one of the few bands that can say they have been on the same stage with the same bandmates for almost 20 years. What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is the never ending tour schedule that is a Sevendust trademark and often is the downfall of lesser bands. Another well deserved trademark is the absolute energy that is brought to the stage in every performance, Sevendust NEVER mails it in!
With 9 albums in their discography and thousands of live shows, success at any level has been hard earned. Even after being taken advantage of by the record labels, Sevendust has proved that they will not be stopped and continue to build a loyal fan base in the process. I have seen these 5 guys play live more than a handful of times and the emotion and energy that they give to the fans is what has made me a fan. With their current success and momentum I fully expect Sevendust to headline Rockfest in the next couple years.
It's always said that a picture is worth a thousand words, no statement could be more true when photographing Sevendust! Frontman, Lajon Witherspoon is a vocal power house who has a presence that very few frontmen possess. I once met Lajon and we spoke for a couple minutes and I have to say he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Guitar players Clint Lowery and John Connolly also have an energetic stage presence and work the crowd with lots of energy. Morgan Rose is an animal on the drums and had some of the wildest hair I have seen in awhile, the combination always makes for some interesting photos. Bassist, Vince Hornsby rounds out Sevendust and completes a tight band that makes every effort to turn the crowd into Sevendust fans, it worked on me!
